the organizers did not use the phrase, rape culture, in the press release they gave me.

I used it, when writing, and meant it to describe the the current society/culture, which continues to minimize the horrors of rape, and often ends up blaming the victim. I'm not sure what else to call it right now, but what ever it's called, it needs to change. I believe this campaign will open up the discussion and we'll find other ways to describe what is happening, so to eradicate this disease in thinking, and further educate the public.

And I know from your posts, how very passionate you are about this subject, and thank you so much for your continuing to add your thoughts and candidness. I admire such honesty.

    •  "Rape culture," indeed. Look at the violence (5+ / 0-)

against women portrayed on television, as well as trailers for movies on television. Sometimes I wonder whatever happened to the energy of we women who started demanding our equal rights and male privileges for ourselves back in the '60s and '70's. One of my family members said that we are in a "post feminist" society. I strongly disagree. Wages, violence, it is all of a piece.

      I think, therefore I am. I think.

made a (decisive) wrong turn about 1980, about the time Reagan was inaugurated, and has been trying to right itself ever since.

A woman worth her salt does unpaid work around the house, a lot of it, and now she has to be an earner, too?

Feminism will get its bearings back. I'm confident of that. It already is.

did use the phrase, 'rape culture,' in her statement, just as I did in my intro.  I am glad the discussion about this phrase has been brought up. It's one more thing to add in the discourse about rape and all sexual abuse.

    •  I fully support the use of the phrase (5+ / 0-)

      "rape culture."

Describes perfectly what is going on.
