        The companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to maximize profits (just like in any other economic sector . . .).

        So they price their products at the highest that the market will bear.  What other option do they have?  If the didn't do this, they'd be opening themselves to lawsuits from their investors.

        If you don't like any or all of that, don't buy their products, it is really quite simple.
