  •  This is just hilarious: The GOP is screwed (5+ / 0-)

    no matter what they do!

    1)  If the GOP embraces gay rights, even marginally, the uncompromising Christianists will desert them.

    2)  If the GOP continues to attack gay rights, they'll drive away the already alienated younger generations.

Well, they made their bed... so to speak ... so now they can lie in it!

Politics and religion should be strictly separated, as the Founders planned.

    > Politics is, of necessity, the art of compromise, of splitting the difference, of finding mutually agreeable ground.

    > Religion is rooted in faith and the certainty of good and evil; sin and purity; heaven and hell.  As far as religion is concerned, "You're either with us or against us."  Each religion maintains it is the "one true way." (well, most do, especially Evangelicals and the American Taliban).

Politics and Religion are thus incompatible.  When positions are held with absolute moral certainty, we see deadlock and the nation suffers.

I hope Hucklehead does cut and run. What an interesting situation that would be:  the retreat of the religious right from politics where they never belonged in the first place.

Reagan cut this deal. And the nation has suffered for it ever since.  Time for the pigeons to come home to roost.
