    The Urban Institute study uses average income, 2011 dollars thats $43,500 for a single man, but median income for a male full time year round in 2011 was $36,000.

    36k may put a person below the last bend point, which might flip the results, that this person would get more dollars of benefits of SS than they paid in.

    Bend points reduce benefits as you earn more money, so the more income the poorer the ROI becomes.

    But the AP runs with "you pay more in than you get", which is misleading for the majority of working families.

      piece to be more 'corporatist propaganda.'  

      I can't recall seeing any other articles with this broad theme (not to say there are none).

      IMHO, Social Security is irreplaceable, and should be bolstered--not incrementally destroyed.

        In fact isnt one of the bend points at 38k???

        SO using 36k would put it another bracket...
