  •  The Space Elevator Tour (0+ / 0-)

Sure, five days to the anchor at geosynchronous orbit. But you'll get to the altitude of the ISS in about four hours at the speed of an ordinary train. That's already a pretty spectacular view if you want to step off the elevator at that point and enjoy the viewing platform, and the view just keeps expanding over those five days until you do reach the top. Or, of course, you can step off at some Low Earth Orbit height and take a capsule/glider tour down through an orbit or three around the world for a spectacular conclusion to your space visit. This orbit/glide down would remove the only remaining disappointing aspect of the space elevator tour, namely the fact that you're just rising up over the same spot the whole time.

And they'll  have to have some pretty spectacular restaurants in each of those elevator cars.

Cry, the beloved country, these things are not yet at an end.
