    But the thing is, it made much more sense for most of those other shows to have 1950s sensibilities -- they were set in or around the 1950s.  The Flintstones and the Jetsons were the distant past and distant future, respectively ... and they were basically the 1950s anyway.  I grant you they were comedy, and not in any way meant to be taken seriously, but I think nonetheless their existence reveals a certain unintentional something.  Amber around the fly, as you say.

    I'm more inclined to consider television of that period to be an indicator, rather than a cause, of societal attitudes.  Though of course it could be both.
