At my rural hospital and at hospitals around the country, there are funds available through the county and through the state that pay for care like yours, when you don't have insurance.  First, your bill gets reduced to self-pay rates, which can drop it up to 75%.  Then, if you make a good faith effort to pay $5-10/month, for so many months, the hospital uses these aforementioned funds to pay off the rest of your bill.  You need to go to the hospital's billing dept, and perhaps fill out forms for patient assistance, and the rest flows from there.  You should be eligible for pt assistance.
