Looping off 10 pounds saves fuel over the lifetime of the aircraft , as you no doubt already know .

Overall, this wholesale departure from the tried and true was for one simple purpose: to save weight, and thus fuel—the largest of an airline’s direct operating costs.
I remember reading about an airline calculating the fuel savings from using lighter weight glasses for drinks and giving a reward to the person who saved them money by doing so .
Going all-electric meant resorting to more powerful battery packs to provide standby power for when the plane’s generators were idled. Boeing decided that the only rechargeable batteries capable of doing the job, without incurring too much of a weight penalty, were lithium-ion cells. These have twice the energy density of the nickel-metal-hydride batteries used in hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius—and up to six times that of the lead-acid batteries used in conventional cars.

So much of this thing is electrically powered that they must need a lot more battery for backup.

The two batteries on the 707 were roughly the size of car batteries.

If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!
