  •  Terrible bad problem (0+ / 0-)

So, out of all the flights on the all the airlines at all the commercial airports in the USA (well over a million passengers daily), 5 guns a day turn up, placed in carry-on luggage by people who are so used to carrying their guns that it didn't register that the gun might need non-routine treatment.

Are these illegal weapons to be used in criminal acts aboard the planes? Not so much.

And how shall we compare these to the number of active cell phones left on in both carry-on and checked bags? What! You mean people just forgot they were there? Didn't they realize that their electronic devices could interfere with the planes' guidance systems? Ah well, another unaddressed risk.

    •  So, by your logic (0+ / 0-)

A cell phone is as dangerous as a loaded gun.

      •  Logic (0+ / 0-)

The diary was about guns found by TSA, not an abstract issue. In context, apparently the cell phone is dangerous. Why else would they be so insistent we turn ours off during takeoff?

    •  Yesterday... (0+ / 0-)

I was cleaning my cellphone and it went through my apartment wall and killed my neighbor's infant son.

And I missed an important text, too!

      •  Unfortunately (0+ / 0-)

I was working on my car's emission controls when it suddenly slipped into gear and ran through the garage wall, killing a family of 7 on a sofa watching American Idol.

And I had hoped to hear who won that episode!

        Damn horseless carriages!

        •  At the rate of one a day? (0+ / 0-)

Not. Because that's what I'm finding. And I'm undercounting. I'm only capturing the ones that show up in Google News.

Can you even find a story like yours? Because I have 75 linked stories to people who have shot themselves or others cleaning their guns just this year.

Can you compete? Or are you just going to end up looking stupid with your example?

          •  Analogies (0+ / 0-)

There are accidents with guns. Bystanders get hurt or killed. If that is a reason to ban or more strictly control guns, it wuld also be a reason to ban or more strictly control even more dangerous things like automobiles. If saving numbers of lives was of greatest importance, you'd be campaigning to raise the driving age to 25. Are you?

        •  That's not to mention... (0+ / 0-)

the fact that you started this "argument" with cell phones, but lost quickly enough that you hoped no one would notice if you switched to cars.

          •  In your imagination, (0+ / 0-)

use of an analogical example means ceding an argument. And were you hoping that no one would notice when you switched from handguns hurting nobody found at airports, to people cleaning guns on sofas?

    •  Besides which... (0+ / 0-)

      "Cold, dead hands!"

"Oh, turns out I didn't even remember I had one!"

Hmm. Maybe they're full of shit, just like I said.
