Rush's ignorance on the birth control pill issue.  It is staggering to learn that so many believe that women take a pill every time they have sex rather than the one-pill-per-day routine that has been a part of women's lives for decades.

Rush made this particular tidbit of misinformation standard belief among his listeners and woe to anyone who attempted to correct his ignorance.  After four wives and no children, you would think he would understand how this works.

    •  He understands perfectly how it works, (4+ / 0-)

how it all works.  How women's birth control works.  And more importantly, how what he says is believed, and how he keeps people angry and hateful enough to keep coming back for more, making him a very rich man.  He may not be highly educated, but he's got that whole keep them coming back for more hate down to a science.  It's a gift, really.  Too bad he chose to use it only to enrich himself.

      •  No, it appears that he didn't understand (7+ / 0-)

how "The Pill" works when he launched his Sandra Fluke crusade:

        http://www.motherjones.com/...

On Thursday he blurted out: "If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch."

Once you wade through the bile and the realization that the country's most popular conservative radio host has devoted hours on his show to attempting to bully a woman into silence for her views on birth control, it becomes clear that Limbaugh, a man over 60 who is now on his fourth marriage, does not seem to understand how birth control pills work. On Wednesday and Thursday, Limbaugh repeatedly suggested that the amount of sex a woman has is related to the amount of birth control she needs to take, as though women took birth control pills every day they had sex. This is how, say, Viagra, the erectile dysfunction medication, works. Aside from the morning-after pill*, when and how much sex you have is unrelated to the amount of birth control you need.
