causal connections, for some reason. Perhaps there is a cognitive deficit. I don't think their thinking can be corrected. Their brains seem to be like a junk drawer in which things are related by being in the same place.

Sometimes I think of the problem as resembling an equation made up of A and B, but from which the function sign between them is missing.  Indeed, there's not even any awareness that there should be a function in that space. We could say "it's just the math," but what sense would that make to, for example, that tribe in the Amazon which doesn't use numbers or have a concept of the past -- truth is just what some living member of the tribe has witnessed first hand. They can sustain themselves in the jungle without any need to count or account. It wouldn't surprise me if we eventually learned that the whole tribe has the same characteristics because anyone born with a sense of order and sequence is encouraged to leave and never comes back.
Similarly, I think racist exclusion persists in some parts of the country because the population is refreshed with new arrivals from elsewhere and the non-segregationists up and leave.

I think we should give more credit to self-interest than outside prompts, even though some people apparently don't have a clue about what self-interest is.
Innocent victims are targeted because they can be taken by surprise.

I'm in the early stages of grieving and I have it. It didn't make me say anything anywhere NEAR as vile as this, and I don't think anything WOULD.

In fact, I wonder why you're trying to make an excuse for this worthless brainless person.

so much as not being able to recognize in their minds that there's no connection between A and B. It seems to be a common problem with the more wingnutty people, all around the political spectrum.

It's that they have no heart, no empathy - they want everybody to be the same, do the same, live the same - as long as it's like THEM.

Every time I hear one of these jerks I find myself thinking of the planet Camazotz from A Wrinkle in Time - everybody has to be the same, do the same, think the same - or they are punished.  They are controlled by IT, a big ol' disembodied brain who has no heart and does not know love.  IT feeds on hate and anger and despair.  IT doesn't actually think, either.  IT doesn't need to, IT just sits there and controls everybody because they let IT.

These people are the same way - they are full of bullshit when they say they are Christian and that they talk to God.  God is not an IT, but a bunch of these evangelical "preachers" sure act like they are channeling IT.  They are nothing but greed and hate and anger.  And stupid people who have no heart or thinking brain of their own just go right along with them.

FRC is just another version of WBC.  I'm beginning to think that any group that has "family" or "church" in its name is the FARTHEST thing from being interested in what "family" really means, and that these "churches" have no idea what faith, love, hope, brotherhood and family is really all about.

They won't accept information that conflicts with their fixed belief system no matter how ludicrous (or vile, as in this particular instance) the conclusions turn out to be.

They are pushing themselves into a corner and it shows in their increasing level of hysteria.
