    ... in some earthquakes, shouldn't it be possible at some point in the future to use this in a constructive manner?

    Can fluid injection be used to map a fault zone if the fluid was infused with tiny sensors that can measure stress and location?

    And if you had detailed information regarding a fault zone, could you use fluid injection to intentionally weaken a section of the fault so that it fails at a significantly lower energy than it would without intervention, (ie. a series of Mw 5.x earthquakes as opposed to a single Mw 7+)?

    Or is this just the 21'st century equivalent of 'Project plowshare' thinking?
