and not long before he died a guy writing a book about the camps interviewed him, and my father at that point couldn't express himself well but he did get a few things across. (I have a copy of the interview)
He was asked what would've happened if those programs hadn't come about and it looked like he was searching for what he could've done but he finally said he had no idea because there was nothing else. Then he interrupted the guy at the start of another question by repeating 'nothing else, nothing else'.

On my birth certificate it lists my father's occupation as 'farmer' (mother as housewife) and when I was born they were living on land where he was paying the rent by tending to fruit trees and the cotton field (my mother said she hated it, picking cotton in particular because she did that growing up too and demanded to not even be buried 'in the country',so she wasn't). But all this was after he returned to west Texas in the late 40's because the dust bowl had driven him to the city at the time of the CCC offer. (we moved to Fort Worth when I was 3 years old)

Just to keep this short I'll leave with this, when the guy asked him his overall impression of the camps and the people of that time, he didn't say a word he just had a bit of a sad smile as he nodded his head.
