The Atheist Shoes test showed very significantly worse USPS performance on otherwise identical boxes shipped with "ATHEIST" tape on them than on generic taped boxes.

But their "control" tests in Europe aren't valid. How many postal workers outside of UK, Ireland and maybe Netherlands know the letters "ATHEIST" mean atheist in their language? Probably some, but far fewer. The better educated and more cosmopolitan ones who do are probably are less hostile to atheism. If the places in the US delivery path where they go astray are peopled in the EU by people less literate in English, they're less likely to go astray. Also probably in UK/Ireland, where more immigrant workers are less likely to know an uncommon word like "ATHEIST", and probably less likely to risk their job in a foreign country where they don't speak the language well.

So yes, America's full of bigots (though also harboring at least some people at least tolerant of atheists, who order branded shoes). But Europe might be too - illiterate bigots. Just like the Good Old USA!

...to read simple English, for the most part, especially those working in postal service.

My understanding is that packages marked with plain tape "went astray" at a far lower rate to US destinations than those which had the magic word on them.

America, we can do better than this...

      Spanish Ateo

      German Atheist
      Swendish Atheist
      Czech Atheist
      Dutch Atheist
      Maltise Atheist
      Polish Ateista
      Finish Ateisi
      French Athee
      Icelandic trúleysingi (?)

      And a lot of Ateist

Some many countries I think would recognize the word 'atheist.'

OK, so German, Swedish, Czech and Dutch (and the few Maltese) native-only speakers would recognize the word. Maybe Polish, possibly Finish. Those are, incidentaly (apart from Polish) the least churchgoing peoples in Europe.

Maybe even some more on your list would recognize a similar word. I'm not that sure about the rest. There are a lot of "the rest" in the EU. And any deviation from the spelling for someone who speaks only their native language would work.

    •  Whether or not the control is valid is irrelevant. (0+ / 0-)

The control in the United States, (the boxes that weren't marked), is the only relevant factor one needs. Get over yourself. The bias in the USPS has been demonstrated clearly and no amount of rationalization, (read "bullshit"), is going to change that.

I didn't rationalize what happens in the US. I agreed that "America's full of bigots". I just pointed out that the comparison to other countries isn't based on a sound method.

I don't need to get over myself. You need to get smart or shut up.
