  •  We have, though not often (10+ / 0-)

There was a formal apology and reparations paid to those Japanese Americans imprisioned in WWII.

I think there was an apology for slavery, too, though I'm not positive about that one.

    •  I was wondering about that. That is the clearest (5+ / 0-)

case I can think of for an apology and reparations.

I think we finally offered up a belated apology for those Tuskegee syphilis experiments, too.

Not sure what (if anything) we've done WRT to the many, many transgression against the real Americans.

LG: You know what? You got spunk. MR: Well, Yes... LG: I hate spunk!

      imprisonment apology.

As for slavery, if it happened, I quite sure it didn't happen like in this video. At least not in my lifetime. I was born in 1967. I'm sure woulda remembered that.

for slavery; it is arguable that with mass incarceration of black men that slavery was never eliminated... all that really changed was the means to acquire slave labor has gone from the auctioneer's gavel to the judges' gavel.

The same slave codes antebellum became black codes postbellum with few modifications; legal systems were skewed to punish black men to the fullest extent possible and their incarceration allowed the state to treat them as slaves... and even today, it still does...

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.
