Thank you for tying the process of healing in Oz to the healing that needs to take place here in our own country.

My only nit is that I disagree that Gillard is as great a PM as you suggest.  We follow Australian politics pretty closely (for obvious) reasons and she is much more complicated a politician than that.  She especially has not been the victim of misogyny; she's actually a practitioner of it, at times as it relates to representatives from the various territories.  She's also quite the homophobe.  Gillard has had great moments, and moments of utter incompetency when it comes to serving as prime minister.  You rightfully highlight one of her great moments, but she's not as heroic as many outsiders would otherwise be led to believe by this piece.

I look forward to the rest of the series, especially the next one about Rudd's 2008 apology (which still makes me weep, just as it did the first time I saw it, including bitter weeping over "Why not us? Why not here?")

I know you have an informed source there ;)

I was trying to stay away from the ins and outs of Oz politics and Gillard - I only commented on the misogyny based on some of the cesspit Oz comment sections I wandered into in doing my reading for this.

There are no perfect PM's or POTUS' i guess is the only thing to say.

Rudd's piece - and some of the material from a variety of efforts around Oz really caught my interest.
I didn't want to squeeze it in here - thought it merited far more space - and history.

Will give you a call to discuss when you feel up to it.
