In fact, you can die from it.  Should that be stigmatized?

"Stigma" in cases like this is really a reflection of your own personal feelings about the behavior at issue.  You don't think young women should be having sex, and if they do, and end up pregnant, you think they should suffer for it.

Human beings, being human, will make mistakes.  I see no reason to stigmatize young women for such things.

all of that is part of a narrow-minded societal sensibility that we need to put away.

What this really boils down to is whether you, or someone like you, engages in the behavior at issue. Since most people drive, they pass no moral judgment on those injured while driving, even though we all know driving is risky.

But if young woman gets pregnant (especially if she isn't white), or if a gay man or IV drug user gets HIV, then we get all indignant about their "irresponsible" behavior.  We deplore their recklessness and ask how they could take such a risk.  What this means in reality is that we disapprove of the behavior they've engaged in, because it's not something we have any desire to do.  And all of these judgments are powerfully influenced by racism, sexism, homophobia, and classism.

I'm sick of hearing this refrain. Just plain sick of it.
