  •  One summer at girl scout camp (4+ / 0-)

95% of the 20 girls in the horse unit got bitten by chiggers.  The exception was me.  The chiggers didn't like me for some reason.

The mosquitoes didn't want to bite girls upon whom the chiggers had feasted, so they went for the remaining 5% - me.

By the Wednesday of that week at horse camp, I was so covered in mosquito bites that I had a genuine allergic reaction, swelled up in near anaphylactic shock, and ended up spending the next two days in the infirmary.  I was swollen up so badly the camp called my parents and warned if the swelling didn't go down by the third day they'd need to take me to the hospital.

To this day I've never been bitten by a chigger.  I'll count myself lucky.
