...whether you or I as Christians accept same-sex marriage as an institution of God isn't the issue.  Whether you can or cannot accept the presence of GBLT people in your life isn't the issue, either.  The issue IS whether marriage as a legally-binding contract ordained by the State for purposes of managing issues of property and progeny can have confining limits. The kind of "marriage" that is being so bandied about in this controversy is actually a state-licensed activity devoid of religious trappings rather than a Holy Institution ratified by God....

When you slip over that particular edge, you call into question the legitimacy of a civil ceremony and - by your objection to same-sex marriage - suggest that any civil ceremony is also illegitimate.  If you can't come to grips with this debate any other way, at least try to understand that the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20 isn't "Go forth and force other people do what you think is right"...

...I hear them all the time and almost every Sunday.  I am trying to explain to you from my "perspective" as a life-long Lutheran and a long-time elder of my congregation that there are traps you are falling into...

...I cited Mt 28 for a reason.  You don't convince people to do what you think is right by simply condemning them for their actions.  More to the point, I think you are missing the fundamental point of this debate:  it's not about "tax fairness" and "job benefits", it's about the fundamental societal understanding of marriage as a legal contract between two people sanctioned by the secular state as opposed to a conflation with - to put it plainly - a religious view of the institution of a "one man/one woman" union...

      •  no, what is stated about what marriage (0+ / 0-)

is is true.  You have not addressed these fundamental points.
