    So returning to my question: How, exactly, would releasing this earlier have defeated the Swift Boat Liars? Documentation had already been provided out the wazoo that Kerry was telling the truth. The Swift Boat Liars responded by saying he had personally gone into Naval records and faked them.

    It might've looked better if he'd signed the 180, or it might not've made any difference. The theory that it would've magically made the Swifties go away is utterly unproven and seems very unlikely. Facts didn't slow them down all summer long.

      The fact that the talking point went unrebutted (for no good reason, we now know) made the liars more credible to the people who did matter, the swing voters who saw the debate going on.

      Does this prove that it would have made a difference? No. But does it help to hide service records? Nope.

      Kerry's stated reasons for this screwup sounds just like his BS about the election fraud investigations.
