    Would be useful to have a requirement to report this data to the CDC as well. Nothing fancy, and no personal information, just an annual report.

    I'm guessing I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

      But as I recall, right wing congresspersons got an amendment to funding bills some time ago that prohibited CDC from using any of its funding to gather or analyze any gun violence data. Obama offered an executive order after Sandy Hook (I think) that directed CDC to do some kind of study of gun violence but I don't know the extent or how they resolve the budgeting conflict. Or I could be misremembering the whole thing.

      In any case, there has been legislative action to try to prevent gathering information about guns, gun accidents, gun violence or anything else so that we would never be able to exactly say either "See, there's a problem," or "See, this is solving the problem."
