I may just send photos to them, but first I'll give it a few more tries here with the MOTley Crew.

I also have some small hand bells that I want to ask about.  Maybe later in the week.

groups which deal with exotica and the arcane.  Here is one Yahoo group which deal with antiquities.  I am a member of some 20 groups with similar interests.

If it were not for the apparent gems on the piece I would have guessed African but with the gems and the patterns, I would now guess Chinese or a neighboring culture.  Any idea of the type of wood there is on the piece or is it all ivory type material?

I was wading through page after page of wooden objects on Kovels when it occurred to me that it looked an awful lot like a honey dipper.

Guess what?  Vintage wooden honey dipper  there it is!  Mine is of better quality, but that's what it is alright!

everything looks like a nail.  In my case, the focus is on African artifacts and is where my thoughts first start out.
I guess I am in such a small niche that it is hard to recognize items from other niches.

You might query Pioneers as to if their honey dipper has any sort of gems or colored glass.  I have purchased items from them in the past and they are great people.

BTW I note that this is the only honey dipper I can find on any site that I frequent so it must be fairly unusual
