not a solution to any of our actual problems.

This crap is fueling wars that will proceed no matter what your personal consumption habits are.  It's fueling an agricultural machine that will continue to produce no matter what you personal consumption habits are.

If we could solve this shit by walking to the Post Office instead of driving or skipping a vacation, it would be solved.

This crap is about as useful as claiming that poor people would do just fine if they quit renting movies.  You're talking about making adjustments around the fringes of a problem.

income gains to the top 1% from 2009 to 2011 were 121% of all income increases. How did that happen? Incomes to the bottom 99% fell by 0.4%

    •  I don't buy that. The boycott of BP worked well (0+ / 0-)

enough that people in that franchise either went out of business in some places or changed their franchise. You can make choices on where you buy your gasoline.

I am wondering though, when the people are going to wake up and smell the Patriot Act? Because that is where all this comes from now.

Exxon isn't doing anything different than it normally would, except now it has a law naming them as critical infrastructure, instructing our federalis to basically protect them at all costs as "energy producers". It might have sounded good on paper [to some poor schmuck] but all we have to do is look back at the No Fly Zone over the Gulf of Mexico, the intimidation and confiscation of recording devices of private citizens without a warrant, and the cozy relationship BP has with the US government and the British government to see how things are a big skewed.

Maybe poor people cannot stop them in their tracks entirely, but we can sure make em suffer by not buying their shit whenever possible.
