  •  But not enough to change the majority (4+ / 0-)

The more I think about it, the more I think Jeff Klein is not only a fool, but an enormous fool. It's well known that Michael Bloomberg has generously subsidized NY Senate GOPers, who have in return advocated for what he wanted in Albany. Bloomberg is a savvy operator--NYC in particular is very dependent on what goes on in Albany, and employing that lever was ingenious.

But Bloomberg is leaving office. Hence, he'll have no real reason to prop up the state GOP. Hence, they'll collapse in short order. Maybe they'll be able to hang on with the IDC for a little while, and the gerrymander they put in place certainly helped. But in not too long, real Dems will be running the chamber, and the IDC will have no choice but to return as backbenchers, and they'll never trust Klein again. That guy has no brains.

Smith is part of the problem and whittling down the IDC until they collapse is the game we should play.

Now all that remains is Diaz and he's harmless now.  It is clear that the new Enemy #1 is the IDC, which I once thought was just a Dem caucus to escape the corruption of the post-Espada nuclear winter, it is now clear that they are brainless and corrupt.  They get 66% higher staff salaries and deny Dems the spoils of the majority they've scraped and clawed for.
