    The Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes region of rural New York have fairly abundant water resources, including some gorgeous glacial remnant lakes and rivers. It's about all we have left, since virtually all the large industrial companies have moved their production to China after pillaging the local terrain. The region is speckled with irretrievably toxic abandoned industrial sites.

    So, fracking would destroy the one thing we've got left, for a one-shot temporary surge of tax and mineral rights revenue that does nothing to reverse 50 years of economic blight and deliberate neglect. The real profit would almost entirely end up in the pockets of folks like the Koch brothers and Exxon-Mobile, while we'll be left with poisoned lakes and methane-spewing faucets.
