    Interestingly, she was very well thought of by some important naturalists in her day, including Hans Sloane, whose collection is the foundation of the British Museum.  Her work was also collected by Tsar Peter the Great, and a large number of her original watercolors are in St. Petersburg (others are at the British Museum and Windsor Castle's library) among other places.  Very important naturalists collected her books and consulted them.  I use the word naturalist because "scientist" did not exist at the time.

    Her work was attacked by some Victorians, and this may have begun the decline of her fame somewhat.  But the story of her influence and reputation is a long one.....
