Our teacher was Mike Petrocelli, appointed by President Ford and possibly a "decider" in rounding up those burros, or at least an advisor.  Yes, we saw the damage, plus looked at the effect of mustangs on BLM range land in Nevada, and WHY the cattle ranchers were so against them.  It was a good class.  In Nevada, we huddled under giant sages, wrapped in space blankets, waiting for the horses to come drink at dawn.  It was amazing. At the time, I remember thinking it felt like a vision quest, alone in the dark and cold, staying as quiet and moving as little as possible.  My only company was my kicking fetus.  I don't think I'll write a diary but you have inspired me to tell HIM the story. =)  And you are quite welcome.

your story. . .and for the boy now a man. Wonderful story, actually. My only role in either the burros or mustangs was census (confirmation). For some reason, ranchers wield way too much power and influence over the likes of the BLM, Fish and Game and all the rest that seem to side with humans and not the plight of animals of all kinds. The one thing I tried getting done, with others in a group, was curb speeding on the road that ran from Red Rock State Park and passed Blue Diamond. Couldn't get the idea thru to the dunderhead folks who moved into yet another gd locked gait community. Desert Tortoises, coyotes, rabbits, snakes, and of course, the mustangs were mowed down without mercy. One day three mustangs were killed: the momma tried to protect her youngster, and another old-timer that tried to intervene. Three were dead by 7 a.m. rush traffic. As far as I know the 65 mph is still in effect. I moved away soon thereafter. Sometimes I just can't stand so-called humanity.

Treat the world (yourself, and others) as part of a living organism. Everyone and everything will benefit.
