    said that newts spend most of the lives on land, while salamanders spend most of their lives in the water.

    I commonly find these guys in short grass especially on humid mornings.

    Their population seems to be declining.

    Orly, it isn't evidence just because you downloaded it from the internet.

    •  Where did you read that? The newts in our pond (3+ / 0-)

      seem to be completely aquatic as adults, even though they don't have gills. Our spotted and other (non newt) salamanders on the other hand are land dwellers once they reach adulthood and only return to the water at mating season. That is the opposite of what you are saying, but of course there are many different species with many different  traits.
