    (although if you're poor or black and live in a major city, it's often a distinction without a difference, of course)
    and elsewhere in this thread also qualified that we're only talking about the US. But if every comment specified the obvious (and not to obvious) exceptions, it would be impossible to discuss anything here.

    We've had a scaled-down form of fascism in the US since WWII. That almost always comes with having an empire. Power and wealth breed paranoia and abuse. Even the conformity one has to subject oneself to in order to get ahead professionally and socially is, in my view, a kind of fascism. The corporate state is, by definition, a fascist state. And of course the wars, millions killed (how quickly we've forgotten Vietnam), tortured, imprisoned, executed, beaten, etc.

    But it's still not 1930's fascism. We could have that here, but it's not here now.
