Rather than quietly being ready for anything, we are increasing our bluster, and forcing NK to act rather than be humiliated.  Also not just NK, but SK also has a new leader, so she too may feel need to prove strength. Every step we take is publicized, and the Pentagon is talking down to NK, calling them all bluster.  Maybe a flyover to trigger an anti-aircraft or anti-ship missle, then a Gulf of Tonkin resolution..? Hmmm? 'Cmon, swing at me punk, ya feel lucky?'

Maybe bad idea, maybe good, given the country is psycho and armed to the teeth, a but I think we are really pushing.

And, after we 'win', then what?

although I do agree that the show of force on our side is slightly higher than I would have liked--I don't think we should back down on wargames in the face of N.K. rhetoric, but I think it should plateau.

      We're getting in dangerous territory.

But the u.s. certainly doesn't want a war on the peninsula.

      •  It has plateaued, until this year. (2+ / 0-)

The exercise with S. Korea is (or was) called Team Spirit, and I (as a naval carrier aviator and Commanding Officer of a squadron) lived in a tent in S. Korea for a month to prove the point, in 1986.

There's something about Seoul's vulnerability that focuses the mind.
