    If a religion wants to define a marriage in a certain way, that religion should be able to make rules about marriage (within their church). For example, a Catholic priest might only agree to preside over the marriage of people who profess to be Catholics. That's fine with me.

    But when we're talking about civil marriage (as performed by, say, a justice of the peace), churches don't get to tell me what to do. You said you're in favor of civil unions. I agree with you there. As long as people in a union can file taxes jointly and inherit property and visit each other in a hospital (and be beneficiaries of the several thousand other laws related to marriage). If a civil union is equal to a civil marriage, that's OK with me.

    But your argument against polygamy is BULLSHIT. The Bible doesn't define marriage as one man and one woman. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. How much money did he spend on dormitories? I'm guessing he was a rich Republican, who was against taxation of rich people.
