      a fair number of Friends (Quaker) schools have a similar approach.

      One can look at Waldorf Schools,

      One can look for schools whose mission statements are similar to that of Lab Schools.

      In many cases, the schools have been started either by teachers or by parents.

      But it can take some looking.

      •  We tried Montessori. It seemed nice enough at (0+ / 0-)

        first, but it turns out our kids hated it (plus it is primarily pre-school & kindegarten).  The kindegarten at the local public school is just as good in terms of enrichment and better in style.

        (I know all montesorris are not the same.....)
