are affected also. It's trickling down cuts. Private small to large businesses are contracted regionally and the Federal cuts reduce the amount of money in state city budgets it means less work for local contractors. In our case our many of our clients who do studies for transportation, land use/development and public agencies are hurt by the lack of funding. We do stats and tabs for market research, we used to get a lot of contracted work from government funded projects. Not so much now.

The line between private and public is all but erased these days. My neighbor used to work for the state. She's a in home physical therapist for the elderly. About 6 months ago her agency went private as they had no more public or federal funding. She now works for a large corporation. She is no longer salaried with benefits but gets paid per visit and has to pay out of pocket for her traveling expenses like car insurance and gas. She's lucky she still has a job, many of her co-workers did survive the switch over to for profit and privatized.

I think this is one of the end goals of austerity. Privatization and corporate for profit of all our public institutions.
