  •  Now this is not going to work at all (0+ / 0-)

You cannot outspend Exxon. Or BP. Or the rest.

The only way to use money to make these sorts of changes is to build green business or industry or even goverment institutions that employ LOTS and LOTS of people, who then all put pressure on -- in the reverse directions to Exxon etc.

Dropping money into politicians coffers has been proved to not work.

    •  It's not in the politicians' coffers. It would be (5+ / 0-)

like opposition advertising on the issue, much like the NRA does:

Senator Blowhard has a rotten record on climate change.

Listen to the crazy crap he says every day:  ~~~~~~

Senator Blowhard is BAD on the climate, BAD on wildlife, BAD on your food.  BAD on your childrens' future!

That's one scenario.  Such ads can have a powerful impact.  And as I suggested, preceding the election with educational ads, highlighting the truth and ridiculing the lies would be the lead in to the "issue ads" around election time.

Pretty much what the billionaire wants to do.

I agree with financing green business, but oil companies are everywhere physically too. Are we supposed to out-build their infrastructure?

I think hitting their politician supporters where it hurts would be the best value for the money. All of them have been "getting away with murder" as far as the climate goes, for years and years.  Time they were held accountable.

"The law is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer." -- James Baldwin. July 11, 1966.
