  •  I've worked with real coaches (14+ / 0-)

I've sat on the sidelines and watched Bill Snyder coach.
I've seen KU practice under Roy Williams and Bill Self.
I watched a real disciplinarian at work under Frank Martin.

Those coaches could be tough.   They made players run laps, I've seen people yell "what the F is that!" or make kids run stairs.

I have NEVER seen a coach of that caliber throw a ball at a kids head.   I've never seen them repeatedly throw balls at the legs and genitals of players.   I can't imagine a coach like Bill Self or Bill Snyder throwing out gay slurs.

The most devastating thing I've ever seen both of those coaches do was throw up their arms and say "I am very disappointed right now"  and walk off the field.   All of the kids got it.

You can be a tough coach without being a bully or a hatemonger.

Defending the Rutgers coach in this way gives a bad name to a lot of great coaches who realize that the point of college is EDUCATION first, and to teach these kids something.. not to hurt and disrespect them.
