your research and argument.  the rhetoric about marriage is for simplicity, but it isn't about marriage. it is about sexual immorality. i admit the church fails to remove the log in its own eye yet wants to point out the specks and splinters in the world's eye.

Abraham's grandson Jacob wouldn't qualify for leadership in a New Testament church.  But simpletons won't talk about such things.  Nor will they be moved to address in any public and meaningful way the grotesque abuses in churches by church leadership.  i don't listen to most of the nutters like huckabee or perkins or dobson but do occasionally check on what my peers are hearing.  their silence about acandals in the church is deafening.

i could be wrong, but those with strict values about sexual activity might be tolerated in the public discussion if they weren't standing in front of a mountain of hypocrisy.

the other problem, in my opinion, is that the religious right seek to establish a religion rather than a consensus.

same is true for the abortion argument.

and a lot of other things are at play in the abortion issue. i am talking about in the immediate social circles not the public 'conversation'.  i am no expert, but it seems like the shame placed on an unplanned pregnancy seems bigger than any reaction to sexual activity. i have seen families come together and support their daughter and grandchild, but my guess is those families were already demonstrating an honest family dynamic.
