  •  Happy Day! (10+ / 0-)

Started college in 1969. Kent State scared me. We were holding a rally at my little Oklahoma liberal arts college when it went down. I've never looked at things the same since then. I'm not as scared now.

Find a way, come home to Asheville on 4/20! :)

parking lot 200' back from the troops. The scene is 11 minutes away from my present house, so I finally walked the locale for the first time just last summer. It's incredibly tiny, and totally in the wrong place for any kind of major demonstration and confrontation. And there wasn't one, at that place. The demonstration was over and everybody was leaving. That's not why it happened and not why it happened there.

I had faced the armed Ohio National Guard most of a week earlier in Columbus, just a few miles from the statehouse, in massive riots coincidentally 2 days before the nation's campuses heard about Cambodia and erupted. Primary election for governor was set for the day after the Kent killings and the lawn-order Republican governor had seen Ohio State get way out of hand, so was determined to prove a point once he saw the nation's campuses erupt 2 days later over Cambodia and had bad news from the Kent Campus.
