claims that it's in a church in Ethiopia. Nobody's ever seen it except for one guy whose job it is to watch over it.

Apparently, few years back the head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church said that the Ark would be "unveiled". The next day, though, he changed his mind and said that it would be kept hidden, but that he could "attest to its current status." (Yeah, a bit fishy if you ask me).

You also have to wonder why nobody's ever tried to steal it (or just snuck in to get a peek), though judging from Uzzah's and other stories, the penalties for doing so would be pretty dire...

I've read that there are a number of replica Arks in Ethiopia that were copies of the purportedly authentic Ark in Axum.  But that raises the question whether that one is a replica too.

There's also a story -- probably untrue, but a good story nonetheless -- that during the Ethiopian civil war, Israel had a team of commandoes, all descended from the tribe of Levi, standing by to rescue the Ark.  (Hm... would God permit them to airlift the Ark by helicopter, or would they have to walk it all the way...?)
