If they cannot make a profit with humane working conditions, they need to shut down their farms.

It's a low wage job for inexperienced people(experienced pickers can easily make over a $100 a day)and Americans these days simply can't do it, nor do they want to.
As someone who has worked in agriculture for the last 30 years, I see it every day.
Many Americans simply aren't physically fit enough to do fruit or vegetable picking or work with cattle or hogs or put hay in a barn or pick tobacco, etc.

soldiers carrying 100 pounds of equipment in the desert being blown up and shot at?

The American gene pool is very varied and it is insulting to suggest that they are all inferior physically to people of another nation.

Besides, if the job is harder, the pay should reflect this.

          •  Well, serving your country (0+ / 0-)

is a little bit different than riding pens or picking tobacco, isn't?
            As are the benefits?
You can argue with me all you want, but there's a reason 70% of our employees are Hispanics, and it certainly is not because we're turning away Americans. Everyone gets the same pay.
