View Diary: Abbreviated pundit roundup: To create jobs, the U.S. must spend (92 comments)

  •  I have had to engage in deficit spending (4+ / 0-)

to shore up flagging infrastructure on the homefront.

I had to purchase a vehicle to replace the aging pickup and now a leak has sprung in a pipe behind the wall behind the kitchen sink, at floor level.

This was not budgeted for and in a republican household we'd just have to wade around in the water while the damages mount, eventually causing far more damage than if it had just been fixed when it occurred.

But that damage would be rationalised as the price to pay to be FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE.

    Am I right?

Anyway, I now have to deal with plumbers, 3 weeks after dealing with car dealers - it is a nation of goddamnd vultures. Nobody wants to help you any more: everybody wants to fuck you into a coma. They want to take your money and who gives a shit if your problem is solved.

We have talked with 2 plumbers so far, both want to bum-rush us into something. One guy wanted a PROMISE that if he came and gave a bid that I would choose him.

WTF kind of operation is THAT?

I have decided and cleared a plan with my wife: we will be taking our time getting this fixed. I simply shut the water off most of the day. We shut it off when we go to bed, run it about 40 min in the am then it;s off all day.

I'm a camper so I dont need running water at my beck and call. My wife works 8 days a week. We can and will take our time getting bids and will let these plumbers know how many plumbers there are and how patient we can be.

Am I expecting too much? Should I jut be comfortable with one of these jackals power-screwing me? Am I too demanding? Is it wrong to demand fairness?

Find a plumber that works on the side.  Luckily I know one who charges us $60 an hour and is fantastic.  Great guy and great plumber.  Works fast has good ideas and I always pay him more than he charges, he is that good.

      Everyone! Arms akimbo!

    •  the GOP thing would be to not call the plumber (0+ / 0-)

but to turn off your water at the cut off valve and wait until you had better days and just haul water from a public source until you saved enough for the plumber (after you had purchased enough weapons to guarantee home security)
Need a new truck?  Junk the old one and ride a bike everywhere until you save the money.  After all a bike and a truck do the same thing

      •  I disagree (0+ / 0-)

Repubs hate bikes because (A) they are ridden by healthy people and (B) they don't burn oil putting money in GOP political donation coffers.

Republicans prefer obesity and poor health, crappy diets, tobacco-smoking, alcohol abuse.

Anything which helps reduce the surplus population, for which they have no need and vast disdain.

(It's why they hate marijuana: it doesn't kill ANYBODY).

        •  I didn't say bikes for them; they keep the limos (1+ / 0-)

and drivers; you get the bike.  Don't you understand austerity politics?  They propose how things are going to be and then you live with it while they exempt themselves

          •  Silly me: I am still in the middle of beinG (0+ / 0-)

traumatized by having to talk to plumbers.

I saw one the other day that had a Mercedes Benz work van.

While some think an NRA sticker is a bad sign and a fitting reason to bypass a competent professional, I think a plumber in a Mercedes van is far worse.

      •  What do you mean. In a gop household, the walls (0+ / 0-)

and ceiling are coated with excrement.
Why would they need  a plumber?

You can't make this stuff up.

    •  It's hard to get people to return (0+ / 0-)

your calls. It's hard to get good help.

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.

    •  If I may suggest (0+ / 0-)

Angies List is a good place to find local contractors - and to compare prices and bargain for costs.   I have had very good luck with them.
