  •  I'd still like to know WHICH groups are best (0+ / 0-)

DFA (Democracy for America) is one group I donated to.

I'm happy to support conservative Democrats if it means NOT LOSING A SEAT to the GOP. I'd rather spend my time trying to influence or shame the people/corporations who are leaning so hard on the conservative Dems...and also on making friends with and hopefully influencing voters in their districts who might not understand the issues well enough.

    •  The difference between a Blue Dog and a Republican (0+ / 0-)

      is twofold:

First, Blue Dogs are generally less odious on social issues. On economic/financial issues, they are invariably the ones who break ranks and vote Republican.

Second, Blue Dogs do more damage than Republicans, by giving them "bipartisan" cover for various of their policies.

Overall - despite being more focused on social than economic issues personally - I'd prefer the Republican to be holding the seat. That way, the Democratic Party and progressivism don't catch the blame for Republican "bipartisan" policies.

    •  But more specifically, what (0+ / 0-)

specific causes do you agree with?

If it's LGBT rights, donate to the Human Rights Campaign. If it's environmental issues, the NRDC has a list of organisations they consider to be pro-environmental protection. If womens' rights, then EMILY's List or NARAL Pro-Choice. And so on and so forth.

The best way to do this is to pick the issues that matter most to you, then start searching.
