Not exactly what I'd call cuddly, but the markings, and the picture as a whole, was quite beautiful. But this will make you feel better.

First they came for the farm workers, and I said nothing.

makes me long for the day (it will come) when we humans can't interfere with the natural order.

      •  "Pokie" tarantulas (0+ / 0-)

Are really big in exotic pet stores.  People who own them say they're among the most docile of big spiders.  The tiger tarantula of Sri Lanka may be fast and venomous, but it's not going to build a web and swing down into your face--in fact, if it saw a human, it would probably emit the spider equivalent of a terrified scream and run for cover among the leaves.

The markings are pretty.  (Yes, I looked.  *shudder*)  But I'm not going to be climbing any trees at all in Sri Lanka.  Or Micronesia, where the giant huntsman lives.  Or . . . pretty much anywhere that big spiders go.  Period.

Hope is a good thing--maybe the best of things--and no good thing ever dies.
