  •  Dr. Carson, looking for a new gig after he retires (11+ / 0-)

This was jut an audition to be the Herman Cain of 2016...

Not a serious candidate for President, just running to make some bucks...

He is trying out for the role as the resident black conservative bomb thrower replacing the lovely and talented Allen West.

Who knows what Dr. Carson really believes EXCEPT that he will say anything for money...it's the oldest profession in the world.

    •  That's not fair. I don't think it's about money. (6+ / 0-)

He has made plenty of money but that's not what makes him tick.

Like many guys who rose from poverty, e.g. Bill Clinton, he emotionally needs attention and approval. Looks like he pulled an Icarus and flamed out in the spotlight.

look for my eSci diary series Thursday evening.

And yes, he's looking for an ongoing source of attention and gratification.

Also I think some professional men go into professions where there is essentially years of professional hazing and meanness directed at everyone and they take it all personally, because that meanness really is personal (but not necessarily racial).  They end up successful, but ranting angrily about other people as what has become a Republican stereotype (Alan Keyes, Allen West, Herman Cain)

on the other hand, Obama wrote two books about how he worked his way through this .  He spent years processing what it meant to him, writing about it, moved on, and was free to do other things.  See? I'm not making that up as issue - Obama wrote books about that emotional journey.

He's definitely a conservative, but it seems to me he's been dragged into the lunatic fringe - maybe by promises of glory, maybe worshipers, maybe power - I really don't think it was money, but who knows.  He really doesn't seem like a crazy person - maybe just a religious conservative.

I'll say one thing for him - and this probably proves he hasn't fallen into complete lunacy yet - his written apology was a genuine apology.  There was no "I'm sorry if you were offended" bullshit the way the right wing usually apologizes.  On the other hand, this was not a public apology; I doubt his written mea culpa was meant to be directed to anyone outside the Johns Hopkins community.

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican." - H. L. Mencken

Apology/non-apology while being interviewed by Andrea Mitchell.

This latest version was issued only under the looming threat of losing his position as commencement speaker at the JHU School of Medicine later this spring.

Pardon my skepticism, but I have my doubts about the sincerity of his latest response to a self-manufactured crisis.

      •  I dunno - I think he sees big, big $$ to be made. (3+ / 0-)

Worked for Palin, West, Cain, Gingrich.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

    •  That's rather racist. (0+ / 0-)

There are a lot of differences between Cain and West and Carson. Do try to see something other than their skin color.

        ideology?

      •  As they (0+ / 0-)

have presented themselves to the public, there's not much difference between them at all. All three mouth cliched right-wing buzzphrases in the most rote fashion possible.

        •  Whoosh! (0+ / 0-)

They aren't very different from many white Republicans, but no one is comparing them to those. You are so blind to your own racism.

          •  You say they're different (0+ / 0-)

and they probably are, underneath the rhetoric. But they sound exactly the same, even moreso than most white Republicans. That's why I said "As they have presented themselves to the public". Don't blame me because it's obvious that they've chosen to adopt an identical set of talking points and buzzphrases in order to advance their careers.

Far from being "off the plantation" and "free", they're much more limited in what they can say and do than black non-rightists, and much more wedded to orthodoxy. They serve at the pleasure of the white right.

            •  They don't sound exactly the same. (0+ / 0-)

I blame you for your racism, that you deny.

"they're much more limited in what they can say and do than black non-rightists"

This is true of all Republicans.
