    being framed. To me, the real issue is that people find it almost impossible to get meaningful mental health services. It's just one of a long list of what many of us would agree are essentials (food clothing shelter medical care) which are unavailable in our dog-eat-dog society.

    When the mental hospitals were closed and their residents tossed on the street, no effort was made to fill the gap. So the police become de fact mental health professionals. In a sane society, shell-shocked veterans would not be wandering the streets and people like Holmes who are documentable threats to others would not be left to their own devices, e.g. mass murder. Quite likely more delusional mentally ill people are killed by police than are killing others.

    As a society we need to take more responsibility for mental illness, not just shoot those who suffer from it.
