    equates going to America with suicide ("Goodbye! I'm going to America!"). Father Karamazov may have been both "sentimental and evil" but that made him a comic hypocrite as well. The Devil, when he appears, is the perfect caricature of the vulgar petite bourgeois. The Grand Inquisitor displays a wicked wit as well. As does The Crocodile.

    Nothing human is alien to me.
