  •  I'm glad you are there for the dumped cats. (10+ / 0-)

It's so infuriating to me, that urban mindset that abandoning a pet in the country is a kindness to it. A romantic illusion. And then denying ownership... Ringtail and Friend kitty have a friend in you.

8 cords of wood is a tremendous amount of energy expenditure! I'm translating that in my head, from when I used wood entirely for heating my house. Here in the Pacific Northwest (granted, not a harsh climate) I used 4 cords, from  October to May. Considering the tiny percent of syrup yield, it's surprising it costs as little, retail, as it does.

I use around 3 cords of mixed hardwood in a 1970's Vermont Castings wood stove to heat my 900 sq ft house from late November till early April. Supplemented with electric heat during the day when we are not home to watch the fire. I purchased a quart of fresh PMS ( pure maple syrup ) from the guy at work for $17 a couple of weeks ago. I gave him a glass jug and he filled it up for me.
If you purchase wood in "log lengths" then cut and split it yourself it costs around $100 a cord in this area. The R.O. system really saves them a lot.
