  •  Cheers indeed to the dock owner! (10+ / 0-)

There are things we disagree about, but this is an area of overlap in our interests. He has very strong opinions about everything, and I'm so glad he likes marine life! I've seen college students down there doing studies, transects, quadrats, the whole 9 yards. It's the best place on the whole island for this kind of community.

Small white butterfly - me too. But it doesn't hold still for an instant, so I can't ID it either. Busy thing!

    Thanks, cotter!

    •  White...Sara Orangetip on our hike yesterday (6+ / 0-)

at Matilija Lake behind Ventura. Also Funereal Duskywings.

Also Green ...probably Bramble Hairstreaks by the dozens and some of these:
I don't know which ones, my photos aren't helping either, and I am not catching and gassing them!...:

      Spring Azure

      Weastern Tailed Blue

      Silvery Blue

      Boisduval blue

      Acmon Blue

are among the possibilities..but we did see lots of Calif's smallest butterflies:

Western Pygmy Blues by the zillions, Bluetts and larger Dfly cousins as well. Also Tiger Swallowtails, several.

I detailed it all in Dawn Chorus, along with more on the Devereaux Slough I was blathering about last week (the golf course restoration?)
and posted a link to a really funny blog post, done by a local guy:
'The Art of Birdering'...and there's a Snowy find it there...!

really nice OD, Ed Ricketts was reading it over my shoulder and says 'excellent'

      This machine kills Fascists.
