    snake. I was actually happy to see it, though I'd have rather seen it somewhere besides one of my nest boxes. They have seemed to be dwindling in numbers the past few years and I'm getting concerned that we are losing them. I used to come across dozens of snakes every year, of many different kinds, last year I think I saw three or four all year, not counting the water snakes which seem to be holding there own so far. I believe the increased traffic is taking a serious toll on them and I'm very worried about it, also for the box turtles that are getting smashed on the road by the hundreds every year here in Missouri. I honestly believe the problem is serious and I don't see any concern about it and I don't see much chance for anything getting better. It will be a such a tragedy to loose either of those two creatures.
