  •  Just left the 'Senior Living' place of my 92 yr (9+ / 0-)

old Father in Law.  Fancy, with a menu of services and assistance including three weekly baths and dress for breakfast and undress for bed.  This is the way old age ought to  be.  SO glad he ended up at this point with the resources to make it so for himself.

Quite a contrast with the situation of mother, 12 years younger, and barely scraping by on her social security.  No way she could afford such care.

Any cut such as the Chained CPI will cut her deep.

She LOVES President Obama. Too bad he's just not that into her.

    Thanks for diary, joe shikspack.

    •  yep, it's a yoyo (you're on your own) world... (5+ / 0-)

i won't pretend that there has ever been a good time to become less than capable of fully caring for and supporting yourself in america, but it is a damnable shame that there are people in washington - including a democratic president - that are hellbent on making life worse for those who get old or disabled without having substantial means.

    •  I've known people paying $6,000+ up per month (3+ / 0-)

      for senior quarters like that.

Sadly I had an older friend who suffered from dementia, who was quite wealthy and could have ended her days in a facility like that.

Instead her very greedy son somehow hid all her assets (not all were in this country which made it easier) so that she went into a Medicaid facility and declined even further, dying not long after.
