  •  Love that private sector!!!! (7+ / 0-)

That's the way to make these damned brats understand the FREE MARKET!!!!  Long live Ayn (rhymes with swine) Rand!!  We need more profiteering in school lunches!!!

I never thought the school lunch was any good. but nobody ever told me to pay or starve.

    •  Hmmmm.... (13+ / 0-)

My Mom hated making lunches (why?, I have no idea, but she did), and we got a 'federal lunch' every day that was really good.  It cost a quarter when I was in first grade, which gradually went up to thirty-five cents by the time I was in seventh grade (and started making my own lunch).
I got my life long love of grilled cheese sandwiches, Campbell's baked beans (in tomato sauce) and ice cream sandwiches from those days.  And jello, can't forget jello.
But more importantly, there was a subsidized program for the kids who couldn't afford the quarter (or thirty-five cents), they got the same lunch everyone did. They did not get turned away.
It was a kinder, gentler time.

I think, therefore I am........................... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose....AKA Engine Nighthawk - don't even ask!

but there was always a free option (which a lot us needed).  The pay stuff was subsidized enough so it was cheaper than my mom could make it (actually she made me make my own sandwiches).

I loved grilled cheese and still do.  Never touched anything that claimed to be meat (unless it was bologna).
